snow day

I love a snow day! Just spend 2.5 hours outside with the boys building a snow man (harder than I remembered) and just enjoying how much fun it is to take time to do these things.....

Home Schooling Not again....

I read the below post and let out a great big "sigh". Sometimes I feel like a failure, other times I feel like very moldable clay. Home Schooling did not go as we envisioned, it simply created a very sad and unhappy little boy. I know that this is a great fit for many families, but for this season and for this son, I can say, it is not. Also, the Lord has made it very clear and has made a way where there seemed to be no way for him to go back to school. We are also about to put our house up for sale. For someone who does not do change well, the world is a rocking. On top of that, I started working from home, just an hour or two a day, which has helped in the income department. God is good all the time. I am learning to trust Him in all things and when all things don't go as planned.

Home Schooling Again

Well after 2 years off, we are homeschooling again. Why the change you ask? or not....well honestly it is a combination of a few things. My 3rd grader will be the only one "officially" schooling this year, although a 4 year old and 2 year old are also in the mix. After 2 years at a private school we see that we simply can not afford it. Also, we found that the school we were at, although wonderful in many ways, was not all that different than the public school system we could be attending for free.....so we are home again. I am excited in a lot of ways for this year, and in other ways a bit terrified. The logistics of it all, the fleshing it out, what will it really look like, for an orginazational freak like me is a bit overwhelming. But, I am trusting the Lord, I believe that this year can be a really good year for all of us, a year of building closeness and memories and getting a very rich education as well.
We decided to switch preschools for our 4 year old also. I went for convenience and cost over strong Christian curriculum. I am trusting that at home we can continue to build on the wonderful foundation that has already been laid. So 3 days a week I can walk my 4 year old down the street instead of packing all 3 kids in the car to drive 15 minutes away by 8 am........I am finding that simplifying is sometimes a necessity. :)

Bi Weekly Menu

I am a pretty deliberate shopper, so every pay day I go through the house, inventory the major food items and plan the menu accordingly. It is then off to the local discount grocer to see what I can get before I have to give in and go to the "real grocery store" with coupons. Here is the menu for the next 2 weeks:

April 12th: Steaks, mashed potatoes, freezer corn (steaks from my sister in law ***free)

April 13th : Home made pizza, veggie tray and dip

April 14th: Grilled Pineapple Orange Chicken, Vegetarian baked beans and salad

April 15th: Tuna Melts, Spinach and Artichoke dip and Fries for the guys

April 16th: Lasagna (make a double batch and put one in the freezer)

April 17th: Hot Dogs, kraut, macaroni salad and chips

April 18th: Leftover Night

April 19th: Shredded Chicken Zucchini Stew over rice (all from the freezer)

April 20th: Perogies, Grilled Asparagus and Onions

April 21st: Slow Cooker Beef Roast with Balsalmic Onions, Baked potatoes and a Veggie

April 22nd: Chicken Fajitas, Chips and Salsa

April 23rd: Chicken BBQ dinner from my son's school

April 24th: Grilled chicken salad and 30 minute buns

April 25th: BBQ sandwiches, chips, pickles and cheese

Dessert for the next 2 weeks: apple enchiladas, chocolate cake with pb icinig, vanilla pudding, ice cream and cornflake brownies (all of which I already have the supplies for!)

Well there you have it, that is what we will be eating! Have any good recipes to share? Most of mine come from the wonderful posts at http://www.5dollardinners.com/

Big News!

Well I guess it isn't big news to everyone, but for a mom who has waited 19 months to hear it, hearing Micah say Mamma today was such a blessing. His little voice is almost edible to me, I knwo that sounds strange, but hearing that one word was so sweet. He said it a few times today and meant it, it was not random baby ramblings, but a sure direct statement from him to me, and I love it. This comes the day after he qualified for speech help through Early Intervention, so it made it even sweeter. Thank you Lord!
